Spring is here (or at least on its way, we hope!). Time to put a little pep in your step and some color and fun into your wardrobe. Here are a few tips to show you how.
The right baseball cap: A hat should have a purpose, whether it’s for sun protection or representing your team and a baseball cap is as American as it gets. Why not go for a vintage-look to standout a bit from the crowd?
Ebbets Field Flannels offers an assortment of wool historic baseball caps from the Scranton Minors (1906) to New Orleans Pelicans (1944) that have a true tie to the past.
Classic sunglasses: It’s true. All men look good in classic aviator frames no matter what the shape of their face. Just make sure they are the smaller version. The big ones feel very 80's. While the classic gold ones (think “Top Gun”) are great and affordable, the new breed of tortoiseshell aviators look terrific for spring. We also love the classic Wayfarers as well, also in the smaller size.
Pique polo shirt: A sturdy pique weave polo shirt is suitable for almost any occasion. We'll shamelessly plug our own James Polo Shirt just because it will fit you better than any other. And use your polos to inject some color into your look.
Put away your all-leather belt: While some of us around our office will go color crazy with ribbon belts, there are lots of quieter options available as well. The venerable J.Press offers an assortment that will be perfect for spring into summer.
Do the same with your watchstrap: Nylon NATO straps are an easy and cheap way to give new life into your watch. Just measure your lug width, the distance between the strap holders and find your lighter band of choice. Pro tip: Don’t try to match your watch head, go for a color that contrasts.
Slim cargos: Forget those old Frat Boy baggy cargos. Please. In 2014 slim cargos pants are still a great way to shake up the old jeans or chinos rotation. Ours look and feel right with a tee shirt and flip flops or a blazer and button down.
The right shoes: Although certain fashion publications are pushing mandals this year. We still say avoid them. No one wants to see a man’s toes. Opt for breathable cotton sneakers in a classic profile such as the Jack Purcells.
Time to change your work bag: We love Herschel for their quality, practicality and their ability to go from classic to cool. We are feeling the backpack this season and the Herschel Retreat Backpack is great for work or for weekends and keeps your hands free for more important things.
Soundtrack for spring: We've been listening to best sounds of South by Southwest 2014 hand-picked by the National Public Radio music staff. We get to sample a cross-section of new bands either by streaming from NPR's site or downloading the entire 100-song playlist.
