Stay warm with our winter weather recommendations

I spent the past weekend in the country and while it was warmer than usual, it was crisper than in the city. After long walks in the woods and then some downtime by the fire, my head turned to winter essentials. Today was the first chilly day for us here in Brooklyn and winter clothing and accessories seemed even more important.

One of the things I look for every year (mostly because I lose them all the time) is good knit cap. I like a cap that is snug to the head so it's not hanging back like an elf's hat, and I only like it to cover the ears when it's super cold. It's harder to find than you think! That's why I like this Morrison Mahony hat.  Super soft and just the right fit.

I just recently discovered touchscreen gloves. For years now it drove me crazy that I could not use my phone with gloves on.  Well now there is new technology that allows for gloves to work with your smartphone. Unfortunately, many of them are totally unattractive but I love this Agnelle pair. Don't need them yet but looking forward to a less frustrating winter with warmer digits.

The above cap and gloves go beautifully with our Fulton Top Coat and our Tribeca Field Jacket. But what I also crave is a close fitting quilted vest for extra warmth, not to mention style, under my field jacket or top coat. My old Gant vest was getting a little tatty, so it was time for a refresh.  The best of what's out there is the Barbour Lowerdale. It is generally better for shorter men because it is trim and sits at the waist or just below. Often these vests are too long and don't look right on us.

Of course this vest works perfectly over my new favorite sweater, the PM Fairfax Crew and V-Neck. They are 100 percent made in America and designed for the Peter Manning man. They hit at just the right spot at the waist so there is no fabric to fold over or extra bulkiness.

For extra warmth underneath these great looks, you'll need suitable long underwear and Hanro is the very best there is. Sleek, comfortable and of course warm, these long johns will keep you loyal. Pricey but worth every penny.

Accessories are a great way to spruce up any outfit, so don't forget a scarf! Our Faribault Scarves are also made in the USA, and they have been a favorite of our customers for many seasons. They are soft, the perfect length and authentically American, and they look great with our outerwear.

And finally, what is a winter weather suggestion piece without socks?! We love these Fair Isle Corgi socks, which come in medium and small sizes, perfect for our guys. In addition to being warm, they will add a bit of flair and fun to your winter wardrobe.
