In Good Company: Mat Fraser

Our In Good Company series takes a look at notable not-so-tall guys who are doing great things. The CrossFit Games begin this week in Madison, Wisconsin and all eyes will be on Mat Fraser, 28, the 5'7" defending champion who will going for a three-peat this year.

Fraser was runner-up in 2014 and 2015, but has been owner of "The Fittest Man on Earth" title since 2016. No one has come close to taking this crown from him. For the uninitiated, the CrossFit Games is the world championship of CrossFit, an exercise form that encompasses weightlifting, gymnastics and all-around conditioning. Its devotees love it and Fraser is the sport's top idol. His signature Nike Metcon 4 shoe sold out in hours.

The Vermont native comes from an Olympic weightlifting background but has transformed himself into a strong contender in all the various disciplines required of a CrossFit Games athlete.

In 2017 Fraser finished 216 points ahead of his nearest competitor, the most dominant performance in the history of the Games.
