Our Guide to Spring Jackets

Our Guide to Spring Jackets

Changing weather patterns continue to make dressing properly each day more and more challenging.  We need to be prepared for big swings in temperatures on a daily basis, as well as hotter summers and fiercer rain and snow storms.

As the traditional four seasons start to blend a bit more, consumers are wearing the same clothes for longer periods, and making their purchases with a “buy now, wear now” mindset.  Shopping for a heavy-duty down coat in July to wear in December?  No thanks—today, it’s a “wait and see” approach.

As the official start of astronomical spring in the Northern Hemisphere, this year’s vernal equinox arrives on March 20th.  Quaint sounding yet highly respected, the Old Farmer’s Almanac anticipates that much of the country will endure colder-than-usual temperatures: "We’re predicting a soggy, shivery spring.  Overall, we see a wet and cool season for most places, with spring taking its sweet time to arrive.” For the expected chilly, damp period from March through June, Peter Manning New York offers outerwear options that are at once functional and style conscious; at the same time, they span seasons effortlessly.

First, the new Tech Rain Jacket is designed to keep you dry while looking good.  Its lightweight, waterproof fabric stays cool in the summer, while doubling as a dry shell in winter.

Equally well prepared for spring showers is the Carnegie Coat. Thanks to its water-resistant shell and soft, zip-out lining, this style ensures protection for dreary conditions all year long.

A popular staple in Peter Manning New York’s outerwear collection is the Flatiron Vest, a quintessential layering piece.  Lightweight and versatile, it can be worn simply over a shirt in warmer weather, or under a jacket in colder months; either way, the classic design lends itself to heavy rotation in any man’s closet.

Another layering essential, the Fleece Jacket doubles as a standalone look.  Warm fleece lining defines this style, complemented by pockets galore and of course a perfect fit (never too long, never too baggy).

Finally, equally at home in the city or the country, our Quilted Jacket adds comfort and warmth as a lightweight layer.  With a cotton/nylon quilted shell, it features a cotton-lined interior, cinches at the waist and wrists and pockets in all the right places.

Beyond practicality, another key element shared by all Peter Manning New York outerwear is precise fit.  As one product description aptly sums it up, “Swim in a poolnot in your jacket!”  Not only does an oversized coat or jacket look sloppy; it actually feels off kilter and less than comfortable.  No more excessively long sleeves and hemlinesor worse, a dreaded tent-like silhouette that makes you look as if you’re wearing your father’s coat.  Moreover, tailoring outerwear is not only expensive and time-consuming, but also never quite looks right.  Peter Manning New York has developed a proprietary sizing system based on height, weight and body type that’s specifically designed for our guys; so there really is no need to settle for less anymore
